At a May 26 meeting of the Deer Valley Unified School District board, member Kimberly Fisher raised her arm and said "Heil" during an argument over scheduling with board president Paul Carver Jr.

Board member and state Rep. Stephanie Simacek sought a censure. The teachers union and a June 9 rally called for Fisher to resign. She refused a resignation packet, posted a statement that was not an apology, and later offered a partial one.

Why she is still there

School board members can't be fired by their colleagues. Removing Fisher would take a recall election, which needs roughly 25,000 valid signatures. We found no report of a censure vote.

Kol Phoenix will review board minutes since June and check for any recall filing.
