The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Phoenix held its "Voices and Votes" forum at Congregation Beth Tefillah in Scottsdale in October, with both candidates for the open 1st Congressional District seat.
Jay Feely, the Republican, is a former NFL kicker endorsed by President Trump. Dr. Amish Shah, the Democrat, is a former state legislator. The seat opened when Rep. David Schweikert ran for governor and lost the GOP primary. Cook rates it a toss-up, and by one estimate it has close to 70,000 Jewish voters, more than any district in Arizona.
Where they agreed and split
Both backed Israel's security and said Iran must not get a nuclear weapon. Shah criticized the administration's handling of Iran and stressed security money for synagogues. Feely called for financial penalties on campuses that fail to keep Jewish students safe. Former House Speaker Rusty Bowers has endorsed Shah. The JCRC endorsed no one.
