As of July 1, the Arizona chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women is independent, under a new name: the Jewish Women's Action Alliance Arizona, led by Civia Tamarkin.
The national group had reorganized as a single legal entity and gave chapters three choices: merge in, take an affiliate model with new requirements, or leave. Arizona left.
Independence means the group can file lawsuits and amicus briefs without national sign-off. It also kept its Ruth Place recovery center.
What we are checking
No dollar figures were made public. Kol Phoenix will review Arizona Corporation Commission filings and IRS returns to see whether the chapter's assets and endowment stayed in Arizona.
How we reported this: based on Jewish News of Greater Phoenix coverage in August 2026. Corrections and additions are welcome at [email protected].
