The Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix, led by CEO Richard Kasper, approved its annual grants on April 6, described as nearly $1.7 million.

The biggest local operating grants: Valley of the Sun JCC, $300,000. Jewish Family and Children's Service, $275,000. ASU Hillel, $82,500. East Valley JCC, $80,000. Overseas, the Jewish Agency got $75,000 and the JDC $50,000.

A chevra kadisha received money for the first time, to pay for burials of Jews who can't afford them. The announcement cited a JFNA finding that 23 percent of Arizona Jewish adults are financially vulnerable.

The arithmetic

The grants named in the announcement add up to about $1.5 million, short of the headline figure. The rest may be smaller grants that weren't listed. Kol Phoenix will check the center's IRS Form 990 grant schedule, which lists every grant, and will ask for the full list.

How we reported this: based on Jewish News of Greater Phoenix coverage from May 2026. We have not yet confirmed which legal entity files the center's 990. Corrections are welcome at [email protected].
